My name is Stacy, I am deaf, I have cerebral palsy and also have Spine Cord Injury. I decided to do blog about my life experience with my disability to share with,
I have older sister, twin sister and younger sister. Some of my family know ASL America sign language.
I have twin sister. How I get CP. When my mom was pregnant and we shared the blood. I gave my twin sister too much of blood. we were born in10 weeks early. I was not get enough oxygen. it called twin to twin transfusion syndrome. My deafness cause from strong medicine during I got pneumonia after my scar central line got germs from IV out of it. we almost died. We are very blessed. I am lucky and glad that I am smart and create. She is too. We are survived!!!!!! when I was 9 months old and doctor DX me as Cerebral Palsy. summer n 1991 before the kindgreton starts, My parents took me to the Duke hospital to test me when I was 5 years old and found that I am deaf. so my mom placed to the Deaf program at public school with other deaf students. Before find out that I am deaf that I use sign language to what I want to say because I can't talk from CP, only 20 words to use signs. The doctors and speech therapists In city thought that I am hearing because I am smart.
my mom review the pre school report from United of Cerebral Palsy pre school because found out that I am deaf at 5 years old. The notes from speech therapist say my behavior was like as other deaf children. She never tell my mom about it for 5 years! I remember when I was 2 years old.
I am talent artist and create. I want to help other who has through hard time with their life. I am inspire others because I have many things in my life are so special and they never seen or heard this before. very rare. I will try do new things to challenge for myself that i never do before. I want be success with hard work and not give up. my smile made other people to be surprise and happy. I want all parent who have disabled child that he\she will have a tough life, share the love, not their fault to cause it, child will teach you a lot of good and bad experience with disabled and need to be patient. Parents need to feel "wow I did for this child for success life and love.
In 2013 or 2014 I fell and cause my spine bruise and cause my right side paryazled but can move also cause me to not walk. hopefully in future will walk again. My spine cord injury is incomplete. My spine C3 and C4 is damaged nerves to control on right side. I got through a surgery in spine to have a metal inside to get together. I had a lot of pain because muscles and nerves were begin to work double so hard. I stayed at rehab hospital FOR 4 months to get better and strong. I work with wonderful doctors, PT and OT. a lot of support by family and friends!!! my mom is always be there for me, it change my life and my family too. I have use left hand for few years. I grow up with right hands. I have to learn use the left hand to use ASL, it was so hard.
I still do work out. I can stand up myself.
